You are the Heart and Backbone of NEWS...
Let's Continue to Grow Together

Since its inception in 1885, the New England Watercolor Society has supported artists and encouraged the development and growth of watercolor throughout New England. We have been able to do this with the ongoing and generous support of people like you.

We have seen remarkable progress. The 2019 opening of the NEWS Gallery at the Plymouth Center for the Arts represented an enormous leap forward for all of us. This gallery space has offered our members exposure to a vibrant, growing community with a constant influx of visitors from all parts of the world. We now have six shows a year at our gallery, where Signature and Associate members alike can show their work. With each show, we also have awards receptions, allowing our members a chance to congratulate and get to know their fellow NEWS members. This summer we introduced an extra demonstration and two workshops though our gallery and plan to present many more events, including demonstrations, workshops, lectures and classes, in the future.

We continue to host our Biennial Open shows on a rotating basis. This year we had our Regional Open Juried Show, open to any artist living in New England, which took place in RI. Next year, we will host the 2024 North American Open Show at the Plymouth Center for the Arts, open to anyone residing in North America. Both shows attract many of the best in watercolor, and are attended by many watercolor enthusiasts.

The Annual Signature Members Show at the Guild of Boston Artists in February continues to be an event that draws in many to see some of the best work by our Signature Members.

In addition to the Open juried shows and other shows, we offer workshops presented by some of the most talented artists and teachers in the US, if not the world.

Our popular Brushes with Nature Program continues to grow every year. With over 16 paintout events offered, in some of the most beautiful locations all over New England. Next year promises to be even better. The season is over for now, but the Brushes With Nature exhibit will take place in early January, at the NEWS Gallery, showcasing some wonderful examples of plein air painting by NEWS artists attending the BWN events.

We are hoping to offer even more to our members in the future. We have made improvements to our website, which we hope will give members a chance to promote their work, as well as continuing to offer more demonstrations, workshops and other art-related events. We also hope to reach out to the community at large to involve more people and introduce them to NEWS and the wonderful world of watercolor.

All of the above takes time and money, and the fees are increasing every year. As you can imagine, membership dues and show fees do not begin to cover all of our expenses. For the rest, we count on the generosity of members and friends. As mentioned at the beginning of this appeal, YOU are the heart and backbone of NEWS and all it represents.. We believe strongly that supporters like you can help us continue our long tradition of sustaining and celebrating aqua media and we are grateful for everything you do to further our important mission.

We ask that you take a moment to consider how you can help sustain YOUR society. Here are some options:

  • Donate to the annual fund campaign
  • Sponsor an event or program
  • Sponsor an award honoring the memory of a loved one
  • Sponsor an award dedicated to an artistic genre
